Hampshire County Council has announced that a full closure of the M27 between junctions 9 (Whiteley) and 11 (Fareham) will take place from 8pm on 24 December 2025 to 4am on Sunday 4 January 2026. This is so that a new dual carriageway underpass can be installed safely.

M27.jpgSigned diversions will be in place along the A27 during this time, which are expected to be particularly busy between 10am and 4pm each day. While the work has been planned to take place when traffic demand tends to be lower, delays are expected, so road users are being asked to plan their journey in advance, use public transport when possible and travel during less busy times.

We understand this may concern people with appointments over Christmas and the New Year, so wanted to share some helpful information ahead of time. NHS services including Urgent Treatment Centres, community pharmacy and GP Practices will continue to operate as normal and be available if you need them.

Appointments

If you have an appointment scheduled, please continue to attend. If we need to change anything, we will contact you directly, but are working to continue as many appointments as possible.

We know that roads may be busier around the hospital as people use different routes due to the road closure, so please plan before your journey and consider the best way for you to get to your appointment. We would also encourage you to check before setting off and consider using public transport where appropriate.

Urgent Treatment Centres

Urgent Treatment Centres remain open 365 days a year and will continue to be open during these road closures. Information on local Urgent Treatment Centres can be found below, so if you need their help, please check which is the most appropriate location for you to visit before leaving home:

Emergency Services

NHS teams including ambulance providers are working closely with planners to ensure emergency services can reach those who need them during this time. If you need help in an emergency, please continue to call 999 or attend the Emergency Department.

Urgent medical help that isn’t an emergency

GP Practices will be open on the working days between Christmas and New Year, so continue to contact them for anything you usually would. Community pharmacies will also be open as usual with some offering evening and Bank Holiday opening times. Please check online to see what is available.

If you need urgent medical advice, but aren’t sure which service is best for you, please visit NHS 111 Online or call 111 for support.
