Car parking at QA Hospital

Patients and visitors who need to attend the hospital or visit relatives over a longer period of time can benefit from a reduced parking charge rate. This is at the discretion of the ward or clinic sister.

Queen Alexandra Hospital parking charges as of May 2019:

  • Up to 1.5h     £2.00
  • Up to 2.5h     £3.20
  • Up to 3.5h     £4.60
  • Up to 4.5h     £5.70
  • Up to 6h       £8.20
  • Up to 8h       £10.70
  • Up to 12h     £12.50
  • 12-24h         £18.20

Patients and visitors using either the main or north car parks on the Queen Alexandra Hospital site are entitled to 15 minutes free parking on arrival. After this time the above car parking rates apply.

To give patients and visitors greater flexibility, the Trust has introduced the ability to pay for parking by phone using RingGo (from 18 November 2024). This means that if you wish to extend your parking time, you will be able to do it from your phone and without the need to return to your car and purchase another ticket. You can also pay using one of our pay machines, that can take cash, card or contactless, as well as using your smartphone.

Please be aware that automatic number plate recognition is in operation in our car parks.

Warning alert

If you have had any issues with our public car parks, please follow the appeals process on any documentation you receive and also email QAHSecurity.uk@equans.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Concession rates

Concession rates are available to visitors who meet a specific criteria for daily or fixed term periods. These include

  • patients undergoing care such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and dialysis at least three times a month for a minimum of three months
  • a parent accompanying a child on admission for overnight stay or long-term basis
  • a close relative/partner who is helping with ongoing care such as washing and feeding.

These concession passes are issues by the senior person in charge of the department/ward and need to be validated. Please speak to the ward team if you aren't sure whether you are eligible.

Main entrance car park

Follow H signage for Queen Alexandra Hospital main entrance, then follow signs to the main entrance car park.

North car park

The multi-storey North Car Park can be accessed via the Main entrance and the Southwick Gate entrance. Electric vehicle charging points are also available in the North car park.

The North Entrance at QA Hospital will be closed from 4 June 2024 as work to redevelop it takes place. Please find more information here. This work will not affect the North Car Park, which remains open as usual.

Blue Badge parking

There are parking spaces for Blue Badge holders at Queen Alexandra Hospital in both multi-storey car parks as well as by the North Entrance, the old Emergency Department (a drop-off area is available by the new Emergency Department) and East Entrance.

All Blue Badge Holders will have access to free parking while on site.

The main (multi-storey) car parks are managed using automatic number plate recognition cameras (ANPR). It is important that you register your vehicle EACH time you visit to avoid penalty charge notices.

  • If you park in either of the multi-storey car parks, please leave your clock on the dashboard in your car and take your Blue Badge with you. When you are ready to leave the hospital, please validate your parking by scanning your Blue Badge at the payment machines. You will need to remember your vehicle registration number.

  • Long-term concessions (see above) continue to operate. If you are eligible you will be able to register your vehicle registration number at the main reception, oncology reception (B level), rehabilitation reception (Rehab block) or the cashiers office (C level) and will not need to validate at the parking machine every time you visit. PLEASE REMEMBER that you will need to re-register if you get a new Blue Badge or bring a different vehicle to site.

  • If you have parked in a Disabled Pay & Display space, you can have up to three hours free parking by displaying your blue badge and clock in your car. Please read the signage on the parking meters for information about the requirements for your vehicle. It is your responsibility to register your vehicle when this is required.

Portsmouth City Council is responsible for the issue of all blue badges in Portsmouth, which covers all postcodes between PO1 and PO6. If you live outside of this area, for example in Waterlooville, Fareham or Gosport, you will need to contact Hampshire County Council to apply for a Blue Badge.

The blue badge scheme provides a national range of parking concessions for disabled people with severe mobility problems who have difficulty using public transport.

For more details about the blue badge scheme or to apply for a blue badge visit the Portsmouth City Council website.
