Upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery is surgery performed to treat pathologies of either the upper gastrointestinal tract (small bowel), gall bladder, liver, pancreas or oesophagus. The GI includes the oesophagus (the food pipe), the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) and stomach.
