The Endoscopy Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital is a seven-day service which provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to more than 15,000 patients a year.

The unit has three spacious procedure suites on site, supporting inpatients, outpatients, emergency and tertiary referrals, and a further suite at Gosport War Memorial Hospital, where unsedated, diagnostic procedures are performed.

Procedures are carried out by medical or surgical consultants or nurse endoscopists. The team also includes specialist nurses, research nurses, registered nurses and technicians who will help to assist the patients and the endoscopist with the procedure. The unit is also supported by an administration and decontamination team.

As a training centre, patients coming in for a procedure may be seen by a trainee endoscopist who will be under the close supervision of an experienced endoscopist.
