Inspiring staff, teams and volunteers have been recognised at the Delivering Excellence Awards.
Held at The Gaiety in Southsea, Portsmouth, the awards celebrated the outstanding individuals and teams who go above and beyond every day to deliver exceptional care and services for patients, families and communities.
450 nominations were received from patients, colleagues and partners, highlighting the dedication, compassion and innovation demonstrated by staff and volunteers across our Trust.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by our partners Equans, The Hospital Company, The Staff Lottery and Portsmouth Hospitals Charity, brought together colleagues from across the organisation. The awards recognise staff and teams who consistently embody the Trust’s values and make a positive difference to the lives of patients and each other.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the presentation of the People’s Choice Award to Charlotte Gibson, an Emergency Department Nurse at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Charlotte was nominated by a colleague and student nurse who described her as “the kind of nurse I want to be when I qualify.” The nomination praised Charlotte’s exceptional compassion, professionalism and commitment to delivering outstanding care, even during the most challenging shifts.
One example highlighted in the nomination involved a seriously unwell patient who had recently been discharged from another hospital. While ensuring all clinical observations, investigations and documentation were completed, Charlotte also provided continual reassurance and clear communication to a worried relative, helping them feel informed and supported throughout the patient’s treatment.
In addition to her clinical excellence, Charlotte was recognised as an outstanding role model, mentor and colleague whose approach to nursing inspires those around her. Her nominator described it as “an honour to work alongside her and to learn from her.”
The Delivering Excellence Awards recognise the extraordinary efforts of staff, teams and volunteers whose commitment helps ensure patients receive the highest standards of care every day.
Chief Executive of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust Penny Emerit said: “The Delivering Excellence Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the incredible people who make our Trust such a special place to work and receive care.
“Behind every nomination is a story of professionalism, kindness and dedication, and I am incredibly proud of everyone who was recognised. Thank you to all our staff, volunteers and teams for the outstanding contribution they make every day.”
