In May 2013, world-class surgeons used a state-of-the-art robot to perform the first operation in Portsmouth using the most sophisticated robotic surgical technology available at this time.
There are only 14 high-definition da Vinci robots in the country. Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth is unique as it performs robotic surgery across a wide range of surgical specialities including gynaecology, colorectal, head and neck and urology. Based on the reputation of their new robotic surgeons, Queen Alexandra Hospital is set to become the new European training centre for the da Vinci surgical robot.
Colleague and fellow robotic surgeon, Professor Amjad Parvaiz says: "This is an exciting arrival for Hampshire patients as they will benefit from this minimally invasive technology. Robotic surgery has the added benefit of improving a patient's rate of recovery and reducing their length of stay in hospital".
