For the NHS to deliver safe and high quality services, listening to patients is of vital importance. One of the ways we achieve this is through the nationwide Friends and Family Test (FFT), which was implemented in all NHS hospitals in 2013. Results are published each month on the NHS choices and NHS England websites and links to these are listed in the related content section. It allows you to have your say, to make an improvement in the way our services are provided.
Results can be found on the NHS England website. Click here to be taken there automatically
It consists of a simple question asking "How likely are you to recommend our ward/department to friends and family if they needed similar treatment or care?", with graded options from Extremely likely to Extremely unlikely. You will be given a paper survey on discharge, or you may be sent a text message or automated voice message from our provider Healthcare Communications. Please let our staff know if you would prefer not to receive a survey.
This simple question provides patients with an opportunity to provide us with feedback about their recent hospital experience. A written comment can be added which helps us really understand what matters most during a hospital stay or visit. The results are published monthly on NHS Choices letting people know how we are doing. For a link to this website please see the related content section at the bottom of this page.
We use the feedback to identify and act on areas of care which need improving and also to share where things are being done really well.
The Friends and Family Test is just one way in which the voice of the patient is improving the services we offer. For more information on the Friends and Family Test, click the link in the related content section at the bottom of this page.
