Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Voluntary Services team can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust’s Dementia Strategy now available to read

Date: 28 February 2022

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust’s (PHU) Dementia Strategy has today been published and is available to read here.

The number of people being diagnosed with dementia is rising within the UK and as a result, we are continuing to see a high prevalence of patients with a diagnosis within our hospital.

We need to act now to ensure we have the systems, processes and workforce in place to meet their needs and improve their health and wellbeing outcomes.

This strategy provides a clear vision for the Trust over the next three years in how we will work together, both within the acute trust and with our community partners, to deliver outstanding care to patients with dementia and their families.

Every member of staff within PHU is committed to achieving this strategy and in doing so, working towards becoming a centre of excellence for dementia care.

The strategy was formed following consultation, hearing first-hand from people living with dementia their families, as well as our staff and community partner organisations.

Listen to Emily Oliver, lead nurse for dementia, and new admiral nurse Sarah Munday talk about the strategy below.
