Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Voluntary Services team can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

Junior Doctor industrial action at PHU

Date: 13 June 2023

The British Medical Association (BMA) has confirmed that industrial action, in the form of strike action, will take place at the Queen Alexandra Hospital site in Cosham this week.

Junior doctor members of the BMA are currently due to take part in strike action for a continuous 72 hours, from 7am on Wednesday 14 June to 7am on Saturday 17 June, in an ongoing dispute between unions and the Government over pay.

We are working with the BMA to safely manage the impact of the industrial action and continue to provide safe care for our patients.

If you have an appointment planned for Wednesday 14, Thursday 15, or Friday 16 June:

We will be contacting any patients with appointments on these days who will be affected by the industrial action.

If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

If you need medical care:

Please contact your GP Practice as usual.

You can also visit NHS 111 Online or call 111 if:

  • You need medical help fast, but it's not a 999 emergency
  • You don't know who to call for medical help or you don't have a GP to call
  • You think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service
  • You require health information or reassurance about what to do next.
  • For symptoms and advice if you have a child unwell at home, visit the Healthier Together website or download the app.

Our Emergency Department will remain open for those who need urgent care during this period.

The industrial action will affect other organisations in the South East and we continue to work with partners across the health and care system in Hampshire and Isle of Wight as patient safety remains our absolute priority.
