The Emergency Department at QA Hospital is raising funds for a purpose-built bereavement suite to bring comfort to families who suffer loss in A&E.
As it stands, the current Bereavement Room is actually an over-flow bed. It is small, cramped, and suited specifically for emergency treatment, not grieving families.
The current Relatives Room is dated and uncomfortable. It is difficult to ease the worry that is felt while waiting for the results of life-or-death emergency treatment, but if there is anything we can do to lessen that anxiety, we want to be able to provide it for our visitors.
Why the 'Butterfly Suite' ?
We are a dedicated group of nurses in the Emergency Department who are trying to make a difference for our patients and their relatives when they find themselves in the worst situation imaginable. We have already been working to improve bereavement in ED by piloting an award-winning NHS movement, where hospitals put a butterfly on the door of a room where a patient has sadly passed away, so that those left behind can be afforded extra consideration and privacy.
Butterflies are also known as a symbol for passing from an old life to a new life, so it seemed fitting to name the suite as such.
If you support our appeal in any way, no matter how much or little, we are so, so thankful.
If you would like to start fundraising but don't know where to start, we're here to help.
