Spread a little joy this Christmas, by donating towards our Dementia Activity Trolley Campaign. The money you give, no matter how small will make a huge impact to our patients living with dementia.
There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, and 1 in 6 over the age of 80 have some form of dementia.
Staff at QA Hospital have an ever-increasing wish to enhance care to these patients by giving them access to fun, stimulating activities that are completely suited to their needs.
This appeal means that patients, their family and visitors will be able to enjoy the simple things in life, like playing a board game or sharing a sensory experience, and connect with their loved one more easily while in hospital.
Any amount you donate, no matter how small, will go a long way into making the portable activity trolleys a reality across Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are aiming to fund Dementia Activity Trolley's for not only the elderly Wards, but also for other Wards around the hospital that need them. In total, this is 25 trolley's.
The activity trolleys are light and portable and will help provide activities such as sensory items, puzzles, music, arts and crafts and dominos to patients living with dementia. Each trolley costs around £280-370 plus another £300 to provide specially-designed, dementia-friendly activities.
The activity trolleys offer stimulating activities that visitors, staff, volunteers and patients can play together, helping to improve well-being, mood, communication and relationships.
Kerry Budd, Operations Manager said, “These trollies will make a huge difference to those being cared for across the hospital. Some patients are in hospital for a substantial period of time, so bringing these activities to them will certainly brighten their day.”
