For Outpatients

We see around ½ Million outpatients every year and cover a very wide range of specialties and conditions.  In addition to the main QA Hospital Site we also run clinics from St Mary’s Hospital; Petersfield; Emsworth; Havant; Gosport and Fareham.

Before your appointment with us

Once your appointment has been made, we will send you a letter to confirm the date and time of your appointment.   The letter will also tell you if you need to bring any samples with you or further information.

You may receive a reminder call from us or a text to your mobile up to seven days prior to your appointment.

On the day of your appointment

The location of your outpatient’s appointment will be included in your appointment letter.  Please help us by arriving on time.

Parking can be difficult at some times of the day, so it is worth leaving some extra time to ensure that you are not late for your appointment.

If you are unsure of where to go, please ask at our reception desks located on either A Level or C Level and someone will be able to provide you with directions.   We have a number of volunteer helpers who will also be happy to help you.

Please use the Self-Service Kiosks located throughout the hospital to register that you have arrived at the hospital.  The kiosks will print a ticket which will provide you with a queue number.

We do our best to ensure that our clinics run on time, but there will be delays from time to time and staff in the clinic should be able to advise you of delays.

When you leave your appointment

If you need to have a follow up appointment, we will arrange this with you before you leave.

If the doctor tells you, you do not need to come back to outpatients or you will be admitted as an inpatient please tells the receptionist who will make a note on your records.

Helpful Advice for your appointment

  • Please leave plenty of time to get to the hospital and get parked.

  • If using the pay and display car parking, rather than the pay as you leave meters, please remember to bring lots of change, just in case your appointment runs over.

  • There are Café’s and Restaurants located on levels A, B and C within the hospital

  • There is a shop located on A Level

  • If you have any questions or need a member of staff during your visit, there is a staffed reception desk located in main reception on level A or staff within the Outpatients Departments will be able to help you.

  • For specific information about your outpatients department use the A-Z of Departments to find the specialism or department you require.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust works in close partnership with local universities to train our health professionals of the future. This means that sometimes a student nurse, doctor or therapist, may be present during your care or treatment. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to the ward or department team.
