Patient Transport Service (PTS)

Patient transport at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is provided by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) NHS Foundation Trust, using a fleet of purpose built vehicles and trained, uniformed staff for patients registered with GPs in:

  • NHS Fareham & Gosport CCG
  • NHS Isle of Wight CCG
  • NHS North Hampshire CCG
  • NHS Portsmouth CCG
  • NHS Southampton City CCG
  • NHS South Eastern Hampshire CCG
  • NHS West Hampshire CCG

What journeys does the SCAS PTS service undertake?

The service is available to eligible, non-emergency patients:

  • attending hospital outpatient clinics
  • being admitted to or discharged from hospital wards
  • needing life-saving treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy or renal dialysis or DVT treatment.

Who can use the service?

The service is only available to eligible patients. Patients are considered eligible if:

  • Your medical condition is such that you require the skills and support of PTS staff during or after your journey and/or it would be detrimental to your condition or recovery to travel by other means.

Or,

  • Your medical condition affects your mobility to such an extent that you would be unable to access healthcare and/or it would be detrimental to your condition or recovery to travel by other means.

When does the service operate?

All services are available seven days a week, including bank holidays, during the following hours:

06:00 – 22:00 Outpatient appointments, admissions to and discharges from hospital

Outpatient appointments bookings are accepted until 1500 the day prior to travel.


06:00 – 23:00 Renal patients attending dialysis at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, or one of its six satellite sites


08:00 – 18:00 Repatriation of patients registered with a GP in Hampshire from elsewhere in England, Wales or Scotland

To use the online booking you must register to receive a username and password by emailing  our on line trainers  via nepts.online@scas.nhs.uk.  Details on online training sessions can be found at:

Transport for Bariatric patients (who may require an assessment before travel) should be booked via the contact centre on 0300 100 0024 option 1

Patient estimated time of arrivals (ETAs)

To obtain ETAs for your patients, please call the dedicated ETA phone number

0300 0135 003.

Please note, you can't access ETA information on the 0300 100 0024 number.

Non Hampshire CCG registered patients

SCAS PTS may be able to assist with the repatriations however these bookings are classed as extra contractual and therefore prior authorisation is required prior to conveyance. If the journey request is out of core hours then authorisation will need to be discussed with the operations centre on ext xxx
