Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Voluntary Services team can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

Video Consultation

An alternative to traditional on-site Hospital appointments. We are now rolling out Video consultation capabilities, which is as convenient as a phone call, retaining the value of face-to-face communication. It can save you travel time and money, and brings care to your home environment, removing you from infection risk at hospital sites. Instead of travelling to their appointment, your join the clinic’s online waiting area. The health service is notified when you arrive, and a member of the team can join you when ready.There is no need for you to create an account. No information you enter is stored or recorded.

What do you need to receive a video call?

- A laptop, tablet or smart phone
- Webcam and Microphone
- Google Chrome or Apple Safari
- A good connection to the internet

- A good connection to the internet - if you can watch a video online (e.g. YouTube) you will be able to make a video call.

- A private, well-lit area where they will not be disturbed during the consultation. 

Is it secure?

Video calls are secure and your privacy is protected. Please ensure you are not in a public place where potential sensitive information could be overheard. 

How much does a video call cost?

The video call is free if made on a secure WiFi network but will use mobile data if using 4G.  A video call uses a similar amount of data to Skype® or FaceTime®.
