The Gastroenterology research team is based at the Queen Alexandra’s Hospital in Portsmouth. We deliver research across both inpatient and outpatient services including Endoscopy and Radiology. Our aim is to demonstrate how engagement in clinical research leads to improvement in health outcomes and management of patients care and quality of life.
We are a growing team with 3 research active consultants and 2 research registrars. The nursing team currently consists of 2 research nurses and a clinical trials assistant. As a speciality, we work very closely with all the Medical team, Specialist nurses, ward and Endoscopy staff to promote, recruit and deliver the Research Studies. We are very active in the development of research and have a strong portfolio of studies that we have ‘home grown’ and delivered here at Portsmouth. In 2015 we plan to open our first multi-centre study.
Research StudiesWe are currently running a number of research trials across a range of gastroenterology conditions in collaboration with other NHS hospitals and research groups . We are actively recruiting to studies for the following conditions: Barrett’s Oesophagus Inflammatory Bowel disease Patients with oesophageal varices |
We would be delighted to directly hear from patients with any of the above conditions who might be interested in taking part in clinical research.
