Clinical Coding

To provide a clinical coding service for all inpatient episodes across the Trust, to abstract clinical information from the patients medical records and assign ICD10 and OPCS 4-7 codes. Clinical Coding is used for both clinical and statistical purposes, these include the payment by results scheme where each individual episode is paid on the complexity of the patient and the treatment given to the patient, patients outcome data, clinical audit to name a few.

The team is headed by Sally Daniels the coding improvement manager, Jan Rickard in the coding supervisor. There are 20 coders and three clerks that make up the team.
