Bereavement Support Service exists in the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust to offer good quality, vital information for the Bereaved relatives. Here in Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust the Bereavement Support Service consists of a Senior Bereavement Officer with four part-time Bereavement Officers.
The office is on Level A, next to the Chapel, and main reception staff are always available to provide clearer directions if necessary. The Bereavement Office is open to the general public and bereaved relatives from 10.00am-to 4.00pm at Queen Alexandra Hospital 'strictly by appointment' as the officers need to have all paperwork prepared prior to a relative calling. 15 minutes is allocated for each interview although, at times, it is recognised that relatives need more or less time.
All the bereavement officers have extensive experience in dealing with the bereaved and understand that everyone grieves in different ways. Therefore an empathetic approach is always adopted, and individuality recognised. The office offers a tranquil and calming environment, where all bereaved relatives are greeted by a Bereavement Officer and directed to an interview room.
Next of kin wishing to make an appointment to view a recently deceased relative should telephone 023 9228 6305 (0830-1630hrs Monday to Friday). Outside of these hours please telephone the hospital switchboard 023 9228 6000 who will advise what to do next. Please note that appointments cannot be made via ward staff. When attending for an appointment please make your way to the Accompanied Relative Entrance which is located outside of the Pathology Centre in Nightingale Road, close to the Southwick Gate entrance to the Queen Alexandra Hospital site.
