Research @ PHT

This section gives a general overview of Research & Innovation at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Our Mission:

"Research and Innovation is important because it allows us to meet and solve some of the challenges facing the NHS, and it is at the heart of everything we do at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. We have set a vision and delivery plan so that research and innovation is spread out at pace and scale to ensure we deliver the highest quality care.

Our challenge: we know that with local population growth, increased life expectancy coupled with a high mortality rate and increased prevalence of life style related diseases is putting pressure on healthcare providers to be more innovative and provide solutions to deliver high quality care in different cost effective and value based models.

Our 5 Year Plan has been developed in consultation with our patients and staff and outlines how research and innovation will be developed at a significant rate over the next 5 years.

To improve quality and productivity we need to continually develop new healthcare approaches. We will continue to encourage innovation and base more decisions on the evidence about what works best.

Research is also vitally important to the growth of the UK’s life sciences industry - we aim to make Portsmouth Hospital Trust one of the best places nationally and internationally for healthcare research."

- Professor Anoop Chauhan, Director of Research & Innovation
