Clinical research is vital for not only developing future treatments but to ensure the care of our patients and everyday practice is of the highest standard.
Our aims are to increase the opportunities for all our patients and the public to participate in and benefit from research. To act as an advocate in supporting our patients and their carers through out the research journey, continually upholding the trusts high standard of care.
We are proud of our team and their success and will strive to ensure its continual development and growth to ensure research becomes an essential part of all clinical care."
Sharon McCready & Jo Mouland - Research Nurse Leads
Our research nurses work to assist in the set up and delivery of clinical trials with Portsmouth Research & Innovation. They are responsible for contributing to and maintaining the high standard of day-to-day clinical care for all patients eligible for and recruited into clinical trials.
They provide comprehensive assistance to study Principal Investigators, Clinical Nurse Managers, Clinical Research Lead(s), the Senior Research Nurse Manager and ultimately the Director of Research in delivering high quality clinical research and providing clinical leadership to the ward team.
The other main function of a research nurse is to recruit patients into clinical trials designated as ‘portfolio’ studies by theNIHR Clinical Research Network and/or commercially sponsored studies.
Over the last few years we have developed our infrastructure at pace and scale to include more research nurses, research midwives, clinical trial assistants and various allied health professionals all supporting recruitment into studies taking place at Portsmouth Research & Innovation as well as making sure study participants get the best care and outcomes possible when in clinic.
