Renal Introduction

The Wessex Kidney Centre (WKC) The Wessex Kidney Centre (WKC) is centred in recently commissioned premises at Queen Alexandra Hospital. The WKC provides a comprehensive renal service to an adult population of approximately 2.2 million, covering the majority of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the adjacent parts of Wiltshire, West Sussex, Berkshire and Surrey.

We are a regional renal and transplant centre, looking after over 1500 patients on renal replacement therapy (transplant, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and performing around 100 kidney transplants a year.

We are a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, with expertise across a range of subspecialties. This enables us to offer expertise, advanced treatments and the very best care for our kidney patients.

Our renal service consists of three main areas – nephrology (the study of the kidneys), transplantation, and dialysis, providing a service across a number of sites and working with commercial partners.

We also specialise in the care and treatment of patients with acute, chronic and end stage kidney disease and offer haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration, home therapies - peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis, acute therapies - plasma exchange and haemofiltration.
