The Anaesthesia Department aims to represent a modern, flexible, forward looking service offering an efficient, high quality and patient centred approach. The ethos of the department is based on the quality of care provided and accessibility of services.

Anaesthetic Trainees in Portsmouth Anaesthetic and Joint ICM posts have been awarded A*’s each, for ;

  1. The Core (SHO) training posts
  2. The Specialty (Registrar) training posts
  3. The Joint ICM anaesthetic posts

Of the 300 posts in all specialties across the Deanery in every Trust and, there were only 12 A*’s awarded. We received 3 of them.

An A* award was given following an examination of the GMC survey, the Head of School report and feedback collected from the trainees after their ARCP s. Its definition is that the post should be "excellent" and in addition all issues are dealt with as they arise and that there has been evidence of notable practice in the Department ".
