Radiology Day Case Unit

waiting area

Interventional Radiography is a sub-specialty of medicine. The various imaging and scanning facilities available here at QA include CT, MRI, ultrasound and x-rays. These are used to assist diagnosis, management and treatment of patients using a range of minimally invasive procedures which in many cases can replace conventional open surgery. Under local anaesthetic using fluoroscopy (moving image through x-ray) and/or ultrasound these procedures can be done either as day case or require only a very short hospital stay.

The scope of practice within Interventional Radiology over the last 30-40 years has advanced due to the development in the imaging and that of medical devices. It has become an integral part of vascular treatment replacing major surgical procedures and long recovery times. Examinations range from angioplasty and stenting of narrowed arteries to treating tumours by blocking the blood supply (embolisation).

If you have an appointment for Ultrasound guided biopsy you will most likely be arriving at the RDCU (check your appointment letter) See Ultrasound Biopsy

We have a very enthusiastic and dedicated team consisting of Consultants, Specialist Registrars, Radiographers, Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers.
