Welcome to the Paediatric X-ray department. We are located on the ground floor accessed via the Main Entrance; to the Right of lift area 2 there is a door leading to the reception kiosk.
For security reasons the Paediatric unit can only be accessed via the receptionist at the kiosk (Fig.1). They will ask the patient’s name and the department you’re visiting before letting you through.
The unit is a long corridor consisting of fracture and orthopaedic clinics (outpatients), X-ray/ultrasound and furthest along the corridor you will find Children Assessment Unit (CAU) and other children's wards.
As you enter the unit the first department you will pass on the left is one of our Outpatients units (below). This is where we have fracture clinic and audiology appointments amongst others. You will be seen here first if attending fracture clinic and then sent along for an x-ray, after which you will go back to the clinic.
Further on from Outpatients Dept, past the lift entrance, is the X-ray & Scanning Dept. This consists of 2 X-ray rooms & 1 Ultrasound room. The 2 x-ray rooms are named Dory & Nemo following on with our ‘under the sea’ theme. We have toys and books to play with while you wait.
Each examination is different so please be patient especially during busy clinic times (Tuesdays and Thursdays). As well as imaging outpatients we also image children from neighbouring wards, GPs and the neonatal unit.
We do provide on the day imaging requested by your GP (other than Tuesday/Thursday) but please ensure you bring your original X-ray form and call in to check space before you arrive.
