Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

During your stay in hospital you will meet a number of different members of staff.  All members of staff wear name badges, but if you are not sure who someone is or what they do, please feel free to ask them to introduce themselves and explain what they do.

If you have any questions about your treatment, please ask a doctor or a nurse.

There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved with the Trust, from volunteering to attending our public meetings, our Annual General Meeting or our hospital open day which is held every year.

Governance and Clinical Audit

Last updated: 05 May 2021

Services provided for all patients, relatives, carers, staff and external partners include:

  • Governance - framework through which NHS organisations are accountable for continually improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish. Good governance ensures structures, systems and processes are in place; it enables scrutiny of performance and the ability to act on poor practice and other problems and how we identify and manage risks, whether in terms of patient care, to staff, and to the organisation as a whole.
  • Compliance including Care Quality Commission - promoting and providing assurance that the Trust is compliant with various statutory and regulatory requirements including the Care Quality Commission Fundamentals of Care.
  • Clinical audit - used to measure clinical care and outcomes against a set of specifically agreed standards, based on policy or a set of guidelines such as NICE Guidance, and helps to identify how we might improve the care we provide our patients.
