    Oral and Maxillofacial Unit

    Outpatient consultations following GP referral and subsequent treatment if appropriate.

    Services include:

    • Orthodontics

    The Outpatient Booking Centre manages referrals for new and follow up appointments for the following care groups:

    • Head & Neck
    • Surgical and Medicine

    Paediatric Department

    The Paediatric Department is based on Level A at Queen Alexandra Hospital by the main entrance. We recognise that having a child in hospital can be a stressful time for both the child and their family and  the following information will hopefully provide you with an introduction to the unit and answer any questions you may have.

    Pathology

    Our Pathology department provides a range of diagnostic services, specialist regional screening and general practitioner services from a purpose-built laboratory complex located on the Queen Alexandra Hospital site.

    Pharmacy

    The primary role of the pharmacy department at Portsmouth NHS Trust is to care for patients, by providing the right medicines, ensuring the best use, and providing information and advice about medicines to both patients and to the professionals who treat them.

  • Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit

    Aseptic preparation of pharmaceuticals and parenteral nutrition, cytotoxics and PCA in a variety of administration devices. 

  • Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

    The Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Departments provide a service of assessment and treatment for patients with either permanent or temporary disabilities, with the aim of maximising function and preventing further disability.

    Plastic Surgery Department

    The Plastic Surgery Department is now in QA Hospital, Cosham.

    Out Patient Services are available mainly at QA, however, it should be noted that patients will be booked to see a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with reference to their sub specialism and therefore it may not be possible to be seen in all localities.

  • Portsmouth Enablement Centre

    The centre provides a regional prosthetic service to people living in Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and some areas of West Sussex.  It is one of over 40 such centres across the UK and is also one of nine enhanced Veterans Care Centres which provide specialist prosthetic and rehabilitation services for veterans whose amputation is attributed to their military service.

    Portsmouth Hospitals Charity

    Portsmouth Hospitals Charity is a registered UK Charity which supports the work of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to help enhance patient care.

    We fund a range of projects including improvement to existing facilities, the purchase of new and state-of-the-art equipment, staff training and helps foster research and innovation.

    This would not be possible without kind donations from the local community, legacies, corporate donations and grants including money from NHS Charities Together.

    The Harbour Suite is currently closed to private patients. To ensure our teams continue to provide efficient care throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, G5 Ward is now a Respiratory High Care Unit.

    Welcome to The Harbour Suite

    Established in 2012, The Harbour Suite is a dedicated private patient centre of excellence situated on the 5th floor of the Queen Alexandra Hospital, boasting panoramic skyline views across the historical naval city of Portsmouth.

    The Harbour Suite aims to provide the best personalised healthcare available in the market, giving its patients access to world leading specialist services, as well as bringing a breadth of surgical and medical expertise to the South West region and beyond.

    The facility is comprised of 14 en-suite rooms, 2 consultation rooms and a treatment room. The unit also has access to imaging and diagnostic facilities as well as a state of the art 24 bed ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Our healthcare and patient experience standards are exceptionally high and it is for that reason that we work only with industry recognised specialists. This helps us to ensure that our patients are given the best and safest treatment available. Private rooms are also available for NHS patients in The Harbour Suite upon enquiry. Our corporate mission is based on one agenda; our commitment to reinvesting the unit’s financial surplus straight back into The Portsmouth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to help improve healthcare for all of our patients across the NHS. These investments focus upon improving our patients’ experiences at Queen Alexandra Hospital.     Renal & Transplantation (Wessex Kidney Centre)

    The Wessex Kidney Centre (WKC) at Queen Alexandra Hospital is a regional renal and transplant centre, looking after more than 1,500 patients on renal replacement therapy (transplant, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and performing around 100 kidney transplants a year.

    Respiratory

    The respiratory system is a network of organs and tissues that help you breathe. It includes your airways, lungs and blood vessels.

    Our department provide care to patients who have a range of needs including asthma, COPD and lung cancer.

  • Safeguarding Service

    Safeguarding means protecting a citizen's health, wellbeing and human rights; enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.

    It is an integral part of providing high-quality healthcare. Safeguarding children, young people and adults is a collective responsibility.
