Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

During your stay in hospital you will meet a number of different members of staff.  All members of staff wear name badges, but if you are not sure who someone is or what they do, please feel free to ask them to introduce themselves and explain what they do. 

If you have any questions about your treatment, please ask a doctor or a nurse.

There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved with the Trust, from volunteering to attending our public meetings, our Annual General Meeting or our hospital open day which is held every year.

Colposcopy Service

D level

The Colposcopy service is located at Queen Alexandra Hospital in the Gynaecology outpatients department. Level D, Lift area 2.

Colposcopy clinics run Monday to Friday morning and afternoon sessions.

We offer the following services:

  • Colposcopy
  • Cervical Smear test
  • Cervical biopsy
  • LLetz treatment (Loop Diathermy)
  • Vault smears

We have monthly multi-disciplinary meetings with colleagues from Pathology and Cytology to review and plan management of some cases.

  • Ms C Buckell- Cervical Screening Provider Lead.
  • Ms R Mellor -Failsafe co-ordinator
  • Mrs J Molyneaux – Administration supervisor

 

Appointments:

You will be referred to the clinic by direct referral from the screening programme if you have had an abnormal smear test.  Your GP will refer you for any other conditions that require investigation at the Colposcopy clinic.  The clinic does not accept self-referrals. Patients will be seen within two, four or six weeks depending on the referral.

You may bring one relative/friend for support with you to the clinic.

  • Abnormal smear test
  • GP unable to take smear test
  • Post coital/Irregular vaginal bleeding
  • Suspicious looking cervix
