Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

During your stay in hospital you will meet a number of different members of staff.  All members of staff wear name badges, but if you are not sure who someone is or what they do, please feel free to ask them to introduce themselves and explain what they do. 

If you have any questions about your treatment, please ask a doctor or a nurse.

There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved with the Trust, from volunteering to attending our public meetings, our Annual General Meeting or our hospital open day which is held every year.

ARIA

Method of Training: Classroom
Length of Course: Up to 3 hours 
Pre-Requisites:  None, although keyboard and mouse skills are advisable

Course Description

The Aria E-Prescribing software is a computer system that is used across the 7 Trusts of the former Central South Central Cancer Network.

This course is intended for users who will be prescribing chemotherapy to patients, approving and dispensing chemotherapy in pharmacy, recording the administration of chemotherapy by nursing staff or administrators who work in a chemotherapy department within the Aria application.

Course Objectives - Admin

This course will enable the student to:

  1. Know how to log in and out of Aria
  2. Have an overview of the user interface
  3. Be able to find a patient by clinic list or searching
  4. Update patient demographics/ Add new patient
  5. See visible Audit Trail
  6. Add referrals & link them (if required)
  7. View and add to Patient History
  8. View the Patient Summary
  9. View Patient Agenda
  10. View Patient Journal
  11. Use the Scheduler/Tracker

Course Objectives - Nurse

This course will enable the student to:

  1. Know how to log in and out of Aria
  2. Have an overview of the user interface
  3. Be able to find a patient by clinic list or searching
  4. Update patient demographics
  5. See visible Audit Trail
  6. View and add to Patient History
  7. View the Patient Summary
  8. View Patient Agenda
  9. View Patient Journal
  10. View Medications window
  11. Record Drug Administration
  12. View the Scheduler and book appointments

This course will enable the student to:

  2. Have an overview of the user interface

  12. Know how to Prescribe and Revise Medications, Treatments and Regimens

  10. Know how to Approve and Dispense Medication

Course Objectives - Business Intelligence

This course will enable the student to:

  1. Know how to log in and out of Aria
  2. Have an overview of the user interface
  3. Be able to find a patient by clinic list or searching
  4. See visible Audit Trail
  5. Display and Print Statistical Reports from Aria
