To enhance the experience of our patients visiting us over the Christmas period and to support the families and staff who care for them, we were delighted to have a 15ft Christmas tree light up the Atrium at QA Hospital. The tree helped to welcome staff, patients and visitors throughout Christmas and was made possible thanks to charitable donations to both Portsmouth Hospitals Charity and League of Friends.
In late November Mark Cubbon, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, helped to launch a Christmas programme of events at the Trust. Throughout December, we were delighted to welcome many extremely talented choirs who graciously donated their time and voices with festive carols and tunes. Each performance helped the Charity and volunteers to raise funds to support upcoming projects and appeals to benefit patient care.
Throughout December we have been truly humbled by the generosity and kindness of supporters, from individuals, to schools, theatres and local businesses, all of whom have donated time, money and gifts in kind. Overall we received thousands of presents which we have no doubt brightened the day of many patients who spent time at Queen Alexandra Hospital over the Christmas.
"The patients were overwhelmed with the generosity of the stockings donated by Friends Fighting Cancer, it really made their Christmas day. One patient cried with joy when she received hers and another patient said that they didn’t need any other gifts as the stockings were amazing. For the staff it is so lovely to see the patients' faces when they open the stockings as they don’t expect any gifts & it makes spending Christmas in hospital just that tiny bit better." - Heather Narey, Senior Sister on Wards F5, F6, F7 at Queen Alexandra Hospital
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Portsmouth Hospitals Charity Christmas Raffle! In total the Christmas raffle raised an incredible £4,478 which will go towards supporting various upcoming projects and appeals aimed at improving the hospital stay for future patients. We had so any exciting prizes to give out to our lucky winners from spa days to family days out, hampers and much more. Special congratulations go to our top prize winner 'Billy' who won 50" TV, a great prize for the whole family to enjoy over Christmas!
“Joseph received lots of presents during his stay, it made Christmas a bit more exciting for him. The amount that people generously donated was incredible. During his time on the Children’s Ward, Joseph also received a special visit from Olaf and Portsmouth Football Club!” – Rebecca (mum) and Joseph
