A sweet surprise for staff

Staff enjoying ice cream

In response to the amber weather warning on Thursday 22 July, an ice cream van visited Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital and served free ice creams to staff.

Funded by our ‘Thank You Appeal’, Ice Cream Stubbington proved to be a big hit with staff as they handed out ice creams, flakes, sauce and sprinkles.

Kate Sandys, Head of Portsmouth Hospitals Charity, commented: “The charity is absolutely delighted to support free ice creams for staff as they experience incredibly hot working conditions.

We are utilising funds raised as part of our Thank You Appeal, which our community and The News supported over the last year. It's also just another small way in which we can say thank you to staff who have done so much for so many over the last 18 months.”

We set up the ‘Thank You Appeal’ at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic as a way for the local community to donate and say thank you to the staff. At this current time, it’s raised nearly £50,000 and funded various staff wellbeing projects across the Trust, such as boost boxes and water coolers.

The appeal also funded a freezer in the staff wellbeing room which is used to store ice creams and drinks, helping to boost morale on some of the hotter days.
