The Trust offers a generous annual leave entitlement where typically most full-time staff will be entitled to 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays. 27 days will increase to 29 after 5 years NHS service and after 10 years service this will increase to 33 days! Part-time staff will receive leave calculated on a pro-rata basis, in relation to their annual leave allocation and their entitlement to public holidays.
It is also possible for employees to buy and sell annual leave.

Aquillis was established in 2006 and is a team of qualified counsellors / psychotherapists who came together to provide counselling for the staff of Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust employs chaplains as part of its multi-disciplinary team to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, relatives, carers and staff. Chaplains recognise that caring for patients is demanding, stress can sometimes become particularly difficult for staff to cope with the demands of work when personal issues are placing them under additional stresses and strains.
Chaplains offer a confidential service of listening and reflection for all staff to help them gain new perspectives on their current situation and enable them to move forward.

Portsmouth Hospitals demonstrates a strong commitment to Education and Professional Development. With its Education Centre within the main hospital, training and education is well supported with staff library facilities accessible 24/7. The Learning & Development team co-ordinate, support and deliver teaching programmes across all disciplines, including training rotations, student placements and apprenticeships. Highly supportive induction programmes lead onto classroom, simulation, work-based and e-learning education opportunities.
With the additional benefit of a renowned TEAMS (Training, Education and Assessment by Medical Simulation) Centre on-site, international courses along with a comprehensive programme of local simulation training are easily accessible. These are offered as part of internal teaching programmes as well as stand-alone. The site also houses a practice suite where surgical simulation courses take place.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is unique in having a fast, cheap and reliable Park & Ride service for staff, located just 5 minutes away from the main site.
Staff who use the Park & Ride service can also park on the main site at Queen Alexandra Hospital after 15.30 until 08.30, Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays.The service runs every 7 minutes during peak times, up to 15 minutes off peak. The service runs from 06.00 until 22.15, Monday to Friday. Between 21.10 and 22.15 the buses are replaced with pre-booked taxis.
On-site parking spaces are allocated in accordance with Trust criteria (Subject to availability) which are based upon requirement to be on-site. Parking on site is limited to staff who;
- Work shifts commencing and finishing outside of the park and ride operating times.
- Are on permanent night shifts or work only weekends are exempt.
- Required to extensively use our vehicle for work journeys.
- Satisfy the criteria for Category A on call as determined by DDNC.
- Have children who attend Tops nursery during working hours ( Not guaranteed - Subject to availability/waiting list)
- Hold a disabled blue badge regulated by appropriate authorities.
- Volunteers not already employed by Portsmouth Hospitals.
- Are resident on-site.
The Trust may offer financial assistance for newly appointed staff who as a result of their appointment need to move their main domestic residence a reasonable distance, including those staff appointed from overseas.
