Medicine

Under the leadership of Dr Lesley Bishop, Divisional Director for Medicine and Urgent Care, the Medicine Care Group provides a wide range of clinical services across a number of key specialties including Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Hepatology, and Respiratory Medicine, as well as acting as host to Neurology services.

Medicine Care Group currently has 235 acute inpatient beds along with a number of dedicated day-case units and outpatient clinics.

We employ or host in excess of 700 clinical and non clinical staff, including doctors, general and specialist nurses, therapists, physiologists, clinician associates and clerical staff. In addition we also support staff undergoing clinical training.

The majority of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham although we also outreach to other hospitals and community facilities within the catchment area covered by the Trust.

Medicine makes a significant contribution to the Trust’s scheduled and unscheduled activities. Each year, the Care Group supports in excess of 12,500 inpatient admissions, 14,000 day-case procedures and 37,000 new outpatient attendances, making it one of the busiest Care Group's across the Trust.

The Care Group is the largest recruiter to research trials across the Trust and takes great pride in having developed a number of innovative and leading edge services that attract both national and international interest.
