Under the leadership of Colonel Neil MacKenzie, Chief of Service, the Head and Neck CSC provides a wide range of clinical services across a number of key specialties including Ophthalmology, Maxillo-Facial including restorative dentistry, ENT Out Patient’s and a Head and Neck Ward (D8).
D8 is a 28 bedded inpatient ward. Caring for patients with ENT, Maxillo-facial and ophthalmology conditions. The ward cares for patients following minor and major surgery as well as caring for patients who are admitted as emergencies. There is a 24 hour treatment room that treats ENT emergencies who come directly from GP’s as well as via accident and emergency department.
Currently offers day case/inpatient surgery including Cataract/corneal/ocular plastic/minor Ops/Paediatric/Glaucoma and Retinal, Pre and Post-operative assessment, Retinal Imaging service, Intravitreal injection service, Out patients, Orthoptist, Contact lens and prosthetic eye service, Paediatric and Eye Emergency Clinic.
Currently we hold outpatient clinics in Petersfield, St Richards Hospital Chichester, Bognor war memorial Hospital, Gosport war memorial Hospital and Fareham community Hospital as well as QAH Some of our consultants also attend IOW and the IOW consultants also hold clinics here at QAH. Including 2 audiovestibular consultants at QAH they also have clinics at St Richards, Gosport and Fareham.
We have a one stop neck lump clinic where we work jointly with maxilla facial, radiology and pathology where ultrasound and fine needle aspirations can be taken and looked at to help with diagnosis and further treatment planned if required.
Besides consultants going to the above we have 3 nurse practitioners holding microsuction clinics in QAH, St Richards, Gosport war memorial and Fareham community
We also have Pre-operative assessment clinics either face to face or telephone as well as a Paediatric surgical service only at QAH with dedicated head and neck unit and children’s ward for inpatients that require admission.
We also have 3 cancer nurse specialists who support our Head and Neck cancer patients.
We employ or host clinical and non clinical staff, including doctors, specialist nurses, Technicians, Allied Health Professionals, clinician associates and clerical staff. In addition we also support staff undergoing clinical training.
The majority of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham although we also outreach to other hospitals and community facilities within the catchment area covered by the Trust including Gosport, Petersfield, Havant, Fareham and Eastney, Chichester, Bognor and Isle of White.
