In October 2012 the Prime Minister announced the establishment of a Nursing Technology Fund to support nurses, midwives and health visitors to make better use of digital technology in all care settings, in order to deliver safer, more effective and more efficient care.
The funding was to be allocated to providers in two rounds. The first round, for £30m, was for funding to be spent in financial year 2013/2014.
In February 2014, the Trust was successful in receiving £167,000 from the Nursing Technology Fund to support the introduction of a new system for the Hospital@Night team.
The £260m Safer Wards, Safer Hospitals Technology Fund was announced by health secretary Jeremy Hunt in May 2013 to catalyse the adoption of IT in the NHS.
The Trust was successful in receiving £560,000 for iDesktop and £310,000 for the Electronic Requesting and Results Reporting Roll-out from the "Safer Hospitals, Safer Wards" Technology Fund.
In March 2015 the Prime Minister announced the approval of the second tranche of the Nursing Technology Fund which made £35 million available to Trusts, health charities and community health providers to spend on digital services that will support nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants in their work and help them release time to care.
In February 2015, the Trust was successful in receiving £271,476 from the this second tranche of Nursing Technology Fund to support the development of a new system to manage Hospital beds – called BedView and also the procurement of extensive IT equipment for the wards to enable nursing staff to use the system.
