idesktop Roll-Out To Clinical Areas / SHSW-0761

Project Overview

The project introduces a virtualised desktop environment that utilises a number of technologies, including fast user switching, session persistence, user profile management, single sign-on, tap in/out using NHS smart-cards and desktop virtualisation. This will provide the following benefits:

  • Improved speed of access to clinical data for clinicians
  • Better support for clinicians moving around the hospital, including mobile computing
  • Reduced desktop energy consumption
  • Reduced total cost of ownership
  • Migration from Microsoft XP to Microsoft Windows 7

  • 31/1/14 Procurement/delivery of second phase hardware, software and licences
  • 1/2/14 Medicine CSC Roll-out started
  • 1/6/14 Surgery etc. Roll-out – planned start
  • 31/3/16 Post Implementation Review - planned date
