Our value of working together as one team means we work collaboratively within teams across the Trust as well as with our external partners, regardless of grades, roles and protected characteristics, including gender and ethnicity.
Inclusion, equality and diversity is a top priority at PHT as we know that improving the work experience of minority groups can only make PHT a better place to work and for our patients to receive high quality care. Therefore, we are proud to support all minorities including our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender + (LGBT+) staff, our Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) workforce with a dedicated staff network as well as those who have a disability, care for someone with a disability or manage a person with a disability.
One colleague who was keen to support her BAME colleagues and be a part of the BAME Staff Network is Christina Musarurwa, a Clerical Officer in the Gynaecology Outpatients Department. Christina has been with the Trust since 2009 and really praises the BAME Staff Network. Christina said: “Equality and diversity is important to me because all people from all walks of life, despite their race, gender, creed or religious beliefs can work together as one team and achieve the same fundamental goals. I feel really valued as a member of staff and it has been a great honour to be a part of this work.”
We have participated at Portsmouth Pride events and rolled out the NHS Rainbow Badge initiative across the Trust supporting our LGBT+ staff and community and will be formally launching our LGBT+ Staff Network on Thursday 19 September,1.30pm-3.30pm in the Lecture Theatre.
Before that, we are pleased to announce the launch of our Disability Staff Network with a launch event on Tuesday 3 September from 11.30am-1.30pm in the Lecture Theatre. The aim of the network is to promote disability equality, raise awareness and to provide support, advice and guidance. We hope to see you there.
