QA volunteer Melvin tells story for International Volunteers Day

QA volunteer Melvin tells story for International Volunteers Day
05 December 2018

Melvin “Bob” Loach  from Denmead suffered a heart failure in February. Tests revealed  he’d had an earlier undiagnosed heart attack which he had just put down to acid reflux.

Further tests at that time revealed he had stage 4 kidney disease which had also been undiagnosed and he was only one step away from dialysis.

Bob had surgery to clear the blockages to his heart and also had a defibrillator fitted.  He was managing his kidney disease through a strict diet and seemed to be on the mend…until he suffered a stroke at Easter which put him back in the ED.

It’s taken a year to get over everything but Bob could not praise the staff at PHT enough and the care and attention he has received over the last year.

He was keen to give something back to the hospital and started volunteering with the Fundraising Team. He delivers flowers donated by a local Sainsbury’s branch to wards in the hospital weekly and has nothing but praise for support he has received from hospital staff.
