We are pleased to update that staff, patients and visitors should benefit from improved Wi-Fi connections at QA thanks to two new services that are now up and running.
A dedicated basic Wi-Fi connection for staff and a separate service for patients and the public are now available. Both services provide a significant increase in bandwidth and the number of devices that can connect at any one time.
Colleagues are urged to encourage patients and visitors to sign up to “NHS Wi-Fi” which has replaced the O2 Wi-Fi. NHS Wi-Fi is mandated by NHS Digital and follows guidelines for Wi-Fi in secondary care.
The new NHS Wi-Fi is funded by NHS Digital, in conjunction with Portsmouth Hospitals Charity and Private Patient Ward. It is designed to support a common Wi-Fi experience across all NHS sites to the public.
Having access to Wi-Fi is believed to help empower patients and visitors and improve quality of stay while in hospital. Meanwhile staff have told us that access to WiFi can help to improve decision making and patient care.
