Chief Executive Weekly Message - Friday 07 June 2019
10 June 2019

Dear colleagues,

A central part of our Trust strategy is focused on working together with our partners to strengthen relationships and look for opportunities where we can deliver improvements for our patients. The past week has been characterised by a strong theme of partnership working and has reinforced the positive impact we can have by combining our efforts. Today I had a productive discussion with Professor Graham Galbraith who is Vice Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth. We have a long standing strategic partnership with the University and have worked closely with them for many years. Both Professor Galbraith and I are keen to build on our organisations individual strengths to support the improvements we want to make in providing care and improving access to services for our local communities. We have some exciting plans for how we can use our joint expertise in the field of research and innovation to further develop the partnership which we hope to take forward in the autumn.

On Monday I met with colleagues from North Harbour ambulance station in Cosham as part of a post-winter review. The SCAS team gave us some very helpful insights into their experiences as well as suggestions about areas of collaboration which may benefit both patients and staff from both organisations. It was a very positive discussion, building on the good relationships we already have and strengthening our joint commitment to delivering a better experience for our patients.

Throughout this week the commemoration of D-Day has placed Portsmouth on the world stage, with events taking place across the City. On Thursday we joined our armed forces colleagues in coming together for a service of remembrance to mark the 75th anniversary. We have some remarkable veterans within the Trust who have inspirational experiences to share and on occasions like this our partnership with the Joint Hospital Group takes on a special significance. We are extremely proud of the strong relationship with have with our military colleagues, examples of which have been shared across our social media channels throughout this week. It was a great honour to join with other members of the Trust Board in paying tribute to the contribution they have made, and continue to make to our organisation.

This week is also national volunteers week and today I joined the Chairman in hosting a celebration for the many volunteers who help support our wards, departments and services across the hospital. They are an integral part of the fabric of our teams and it was a great pleasure to be able to thank them personally and recognise the enormous contribution they make to our organisation every day.

And finally, this evening I am pleased to be joining local MP Suella Braverman in her Fareham constituency as part of a panel of representatives from local health and care organisations to answer queries from local residents. I welcome any opportunity to receive feedback from our wider community and it is particularly important to demonstrate how we are working together with our partners in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.

Thank you, as ever, for all that you do.
