Portsmouth Pathology is one of the largest services in the country and reports on around 1.9 million requests per year with around 300 staff employed. Our service is now centralised in a new purpose-built Pathology Centre at Queen Alexandra Hospital where we have invested heavily in automation and new technology.
We are determined to provide a responsive service to patients and clinicians and are concentrating on improving our customer focus and in adding value to everything we do. We seek comments and suggestions and would be glad to discuss ways of improving our service. Contact details for the individual specialties are detailed below.
We welcome visitors by arrangement. We perform over 600 different tests on-site and can arrange for other specialised tests to be performed elsewhere. If in doubt then please contact the appropriate consultant for advice.

Long gone are the days when being in a clinical trial sparked fear. At Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, patients are given opportunities to take part in clinical trials, in fact when asked, over 90% of patients believe that others should be offered a clinical trial. They are a vital part of learning more about both health and illness, and aim towards making progress for the future.
