Day Surgery Admission

Please arrive at the Day Surgical Unit on Level D at Queen Alexandra Hospital at the time stated in your letter, making sure you have followed your eating & drinking instructions. This is a very important part of your stay.

Please bring in with you any medication you take, dressing gown, slippers and a book/magazine to read. Please do not bring large cases with you.

On arrival you will check in at reception and asked to take a seat in the waiting area. You will then be called through to another area to be seen by the Nurse, Anesthetist, and Surgeon. Please be patient as this is a lengthy process and you have to wait for a period of time.

After surgery you will be offered something to eat and drink and your relative or escort will be telephoned with a time for them to collect you. They may be asked to get a wheel chair to take you to the car especially if you have had lower limb surgery.

Once assessed as being ready for discharge, a nurse will go through your post operative information, contact telephone numbers and any medication you need to take home (please be aware you may get an invoice later for your medication that is given to you by the day surgery unit). It may be cheaper to seek advice from your local pharmacy on pain relief prior to your admission. Once everything is completed you will be discharged to your relative or escort.

If you have any question about your admission to day surgery please ring on 023 9228 6000 ext 6026 and speak to one of the staff members who will be happy to help.
