Car parking rates

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust would like to inform patients and visitors that parking charges at Queen Alexandra Hospital are to increase from April 2014.

Carillion, who manage our car parks, will increase the parking tariff at the multi-storey car park, the north car park and for the spaces near to the east entrance.

Peter Mellor, director of corporate affairs and business development, at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Carillion has responded positively to requests from members of the public and local politicians to be as considerate as possible when considering the new parking prices for 2014/15.

“We know that 80 per cent of the people visiting our hospital fall into either the first or second parking price bracket and so we are pleased to see the first tariff extended from one hour to an hour-and-a-half at no extra cost.

“The Trust has worked alongside Carillion to ensure the rise in car parking charges at the hospital are fair and remain as low as possible. We are confident that Carillion, in line with its contract, has done the best it can for our patients.”

Patients and visitors who need to attend the hospital or visit relatives over a longer period of time can still benefit from a reduced parking charge rate. This is at the discretion of the ward or clinic sister.

Queen Alexandra Hospital parking charges as of April 1 2014:

Up to 1.5 hours £1.70

Up to 2.5 hours £3.00

Up to 3.5 hours £4.20

Up to 4.5 hours £5.20

Up to 6 hours £7.50

Up to 8 hours £9.80

Up to 12 hours £11.40

Over 12 hours £16.60

Patients and visitors using either the main or north car parks on the Queen Alexandra Hospital site are entitled to 15 minutes free parking on arrival. After this time the above car parking rates apply.

Most outpatient appointments, excluding cardiology, maternity and paediatrics, can be accessed via the north entrance and therefore the north car park is the most appropriate place to park.

It has been shown that play and distraction can significantly improve a poorly child’s hospital experience and a new initiative from Starlight Children’s Foundation brought a big dose of fun and laughter to our young patients on a recent visit.
