Ministry of Defence

Defence Medical Group (South) and Portsmouth NHS Trust have had long established relationship. Doctors, Nurses and other Allied Health Care professionals from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force have worked at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham since 01 April 2005. The Trust has continued to show support to MOD personnel by amalgamating them within the clinical environment; ensuring they have appropriate clinical exposure and experiences to enable to carry out their military commitments anywhere around the world.

Defence Medical Group (South) is the largest in the UK with approximately 260 personnel. The Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Adam Shorrock RAMC continues to strive and build on the cohesive relationship between the MOD and the Trust. He strives to progress and develop military personnel within clinical areas and aims to promote clinical governance, mitigate risk and liaise at executive level. Lieutenant Colonel Shorrock endorses military ethos by supporting interaction with local community agencies, engaging with the media and encouraging his personnel to fund raise for local and national charities.

The transition from Afghanistan has meant that military personnel have continued to train and prepare for any eventuality. DMG South staff have been deployed in support of the Ebola outbreak in Africa, on board Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Argus and other military exercises and deployments around the UK and rest of the world.
