Acute Medical Unit

The Acute Medical unit (AMU) at Queen Alexandra is a 58 bedded facility which takes admissions from the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Emergency Care and direct from GPs. In addition to the admission ward, we provide an Ambulatory Emergency Care unit with 9 bays. After patients have been assessed they will generally be treated, transferred to Ambulatory Emergency Care, admitted to a speciality ward, or discharged home.

Opening times

Main AMU - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. GP calls – a dedicated admin resource is available to take calls 0800 – 2000, 7 days a week, with calls outside of these times being handled by our Nurse in charge of the unit. Ambulatory Emergency Care - 0800 – 2000, 7 days a week.

How can a patient make an appointment?

Location on site

Located on C Level and accessed via the North entrance of the Queen Alexandra site.
Please be aware that no access to AMU is available via the Emergency Department.
