| Awarding our champion Macmillan cancer volunteers | |
| 25 June 2012 More than 5,800 people are diagnosed with cancer in Hampshire every year and they need treatment and support. At Queen Alexandra Hospital, the Macmillan Information and Support Centre provides a hub in the centre of the hospital to give advice and help to those diagnosed with cancer and their families. Macmillan hosted the annual volunteers award ceremony this week to recognise the contributions that our volunteers make to our hospital. Key to the success are the amazing and dedicated volunteers. Ursula Ward, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust says: "Thank you to everyone for helping patients suffering with cancer at Queen Alexandra Hospital. Our volunteers have a very important role and see that patients have the best support, even when there is hard news. We couldn't offer all the services we do without our volunteers, so thank you." "To see our volunteers awarded for the dedication and service for people affected by cancer in this wonderful facility has been amazing. It has been a fantastic day,” commented Paul Morgan, Area Fundraising Manager, Macmillan Cancer Support. A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, and especially our winners this year: Long service awards: Gold award (15 years+) = Julie Bradley Silver award (10 years+) = Pam Atkinson Bronze award (5 years+) = Marilyn Ferguson, Roswitha Elridge, Sonia Horwood, Marianne Alexander, Christina Preston, Hazel Tudor Deborah Hutton awards (recognising volunteers going over and above their job roles): Beryl Neate, Heather Fisher, Caroline Morgan, Shirley Williams, Lesley Rosenthal, Jane Brightwell | |
