Kim Carter MBE
Kim Carter honoured by the Queen with an MBE
19 June 2012

Kim Carter, a venous thromboembolism (VTE) nurse specialist at Queen Alexandra Hospital, has been named on the Queens birthday honours list.

She has dedicated her recent working life to the prevention and treatment of blood clots both here at QA and as Trustee and Nursing Director of Lifeblood, The Thrombosis Charity. This has been recognised by the Queen, who will officially make her a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

Kim comments: “I didn’t quite believe it when I got the letter. I’m really honoured and humbled, but I don’t see it as an achievement just for myself, but for all nurses here at QA and for Lifeblood. To be given this award on the year of the Queen’s Jubilee is a real privilege.”

Kim has been working at the hospital since 1996 and has been in her current role for three-and-a-half years.

“The best part of my job is one-to-one interaction with patients. Working in the field of VTE is primarily about improving patient care and outcomes and that is really important to me.”
