Quality

This page provides information about how we place quality at the heart of everything we do.  You will be able to find out more about progress in the Trust to improved the quality of the services we provide through this webpage.

Care Quality Commission Registration

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England and regulates care provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies and voluntary organisations and aims to make sure better care is provided for everyone - in hospitals, care homes and people's own homes.  The CQC has the powers to inspect and enforce actions if they feel that the Trust or any of its services do not meet the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, against which all care must comply.

From 1 April 2010 all health and social care providers must be registered with the CQC in order to provide health care services.  To register, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust had to declare compliance against the 16 Essential Standards of Quality and Safety set out by the CQC, thereby complying with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Regulations 2010 and the CQC Regulations 2009.

The Trust was successfully registered with the CQC, without conditions, effective from 1 April 2010.  The Trust must now continue to ensure it meets the requirements of the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety. These essential standards are designed to focus on people’s experiences of care and the quality of the treatment and support that they receive and cover all aspects of the patient care pathway.

Additional information on the CQC can be found on their website: http://www.cqc.org.uk

Quality Account

In 2010 the Trust published its first Quality Account, providing details of the quality of services the Trust provides and priorities for improvement in 2010/2011, the Trust is now proud to publish its second Quality Account (please see right hand side of this page)

Having seen many significant improvements in the quality of care our patients receive in recent years and achievements recognised through national awards, the Account provides the ideal opportunity to set out our priorities for the coming year (2011/2012), demonstrate how well the Trust is performing against quality targets and to identify where we need to improve the quality of services we provide.  The report covers all areas of performance on quality, including patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience.

We hope you will enjoy reading our Quality Account and we welcome comments and feedback on the report which will help to inform the report for next year.  Should you wish to provide feedback please use the ‘customer services feedback form’ which can be found on the ‘about us’ page.
