Making a donation

Your gift, your choice

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust provides a wide range of services to the local communities of Portsmouth and South East Hampshire and is committed to providing our patients and visitors with services of the highest standard and quality.

We know that at times some people wish to express their gratitude by making a donation to the Trust and we appreciate each and every one of them - no matter how big or small.

Gifts to our charitable funds

When someone makes a donation to the Trust the money goes into one of our Charitable Funds, depending on their wishes.

When making a donation, you may specify a purpose for the money, for example: the purchase of equipment.

However if you do not specify a purpose, the Trustees will use their discretion to prioritise how best the money can be spent. General purpose donations allow the Trustees maximum flexibility in the utilisation of your donation.

Charitable Funds consists of:

1. Rocky Appeal - The object of this appeal is "the relief of sickness by the development, improvement and maintenance of clinical services provided by Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust". The current Rocky Appeal aims to raise £3 million for Laparoscopic Endoscopy Theatres.

Other ways of helping

Making a donation is only one way of giving to the Trust's Charitable Funds.

  • A Gift in your will - Legacies are a valuable source of income to our charities and we feel a special sense of privilege and honour whenever the Trust is mentioned in a will. Half the money we receive from donations comes from gifts in wills and it is thanks to these donations that we are able to continue improving the facilities and care for our patients. If you would like to leave a gift in you will for the Trust, advice on wording can be provided by the Charitable Funds Accountant.

  • Give As You Earn - this scheme allows you to donate directly from your pay. Tax is calculated after your donations have been deducted from your pay. This method of giving needs to be arranged with your employer.

Gifts to staff

Please bear in mind that staff are not able to accept individual gifts. Small gifts such as a box of chocolates can be accepted if they are to benefit a whole ward or department.

Thank you for your support.
