Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has more than 800 men and women who give their time freely to help with various activities around the hospital.
The range of tasks include:
We welcome volunteers from the age of 16 whatever your sex and background. There is no upper age limit, providing you are reasonably fit. We do ask for a commitment of 3-4 hours per week, or more if you have the time.
People volunteer for a variety of reasons, the reasons being as varied as themselves. Everyone has something to give. The application process can take up to two months, so please bear this in mind when applying.
Volunteers are people very much like YOU!
If you would like to volunteer but are worried that you have no previous experience, or perhaps fear you may be ‘thrown in the deep end’, don’t worry. Provision is made for volunteers to receive help and guidance until they become familiar with the work and ‘geography’ of the hospital.
Once you become a volunteer you will have on-going support from Paula Taylor, who will encourage you to contribute any ideas or suggestions you may have to improve our services.
Contact Paula Taylor for an informal chat. The Voluntary Services Department has a 24-hour voice mail service - if we cannot take your call in person, leave your name and telephone number and your call will be returned as soon as is possible.
Thank you for your interest. We hope you decide to join us at Portsmouth Hospitals.

Long gone are the days when being in a clinical trial sparked fear. At Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, patients are given opportunities to take part in clinical trials, in fact when asked, over 90% of patients believe that others should be offered a clinical trial. They are a vital part of learning more about both health and illness, and aim towards making progress for the future.
