Equality Scheme

The Equality Scheme sets out our commitment to equality, diversity and human rights; and our determination to ensure that our policies, services and practices meet the needs of all the patients we treat as well as our staff.

It shows how we as an organisation, will meet and work towards exceeding our statutory obligations for promoting equality and eliminating discrimination. By setting out how we are going to do this we hold ourselves accountable for our delivery and can make any necessary changes.

To deliver the Equality Scheme, it is important that the needs of patients, users and staff are met when designing and delivering our services. We have a clear commitment within The Workforce Strategy to develop and promote a culture within the Trust, which is diverse, where individual differences are valued and respected and to further develop a workforce which reflects the community we serve.

Our managers are accountable for working in line with the NHS Managers Code of Conduct and for ensuring their staff is enabled to meet the requirements of the Equality and Diversity part of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.

It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to proactively promote equality and value diversity, and to implement the Equality Scheme. We also work in partnership with other public sector and community organisations to ensure the people of Portsmouth and beyond receive fair and equal treatment.
