NICU is recruiting!
The neonatal intensive care unit at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting and Ana tells us why it’s the best place to work.
Ana is a Band 6 Sister on the Unit, which means she is responsible for both her patients and colleagues in NICU. “As a Sister this is more of a leadership role, meaning you are there to take charge of the unit and monitor the junior staff,” explains Ana. “I love the role of Sister as I enjoy managing the unit as well as still having the opportunity of being hands on with my patients.”
With many years of experience – 14 years of working at Portsmouth Hospitals – Ana really feels like she makes a difference. “The babies on intensive care are very sick at the early stages, and I am there to care for these babies as well a provide support to the families,” says Ana.
Ana originally came from Luton, trained in adult care but says that working with babies is so rewarding. “I loved working in adult care, which I was originally trained in, but after coming to Portsmouth and working in NICU I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”
The NICU environment described by Ana was a great one, with a huge supportive team. “Everyone on the unit is so friendly and approachable; we have a great sense of team work and it is really nice.”
Interested in a career in NICU? Come along to the unit’s nursing recruitment event on Monday 19th February, 9.30am until 12.30pm. This will be a great opportunity to meet with the team and take a look around the department.
